Which MacBooks work with FoldMyMac?
Last updated 5 October 2026
FoldMyMac needs macOS 14 Sonoma or later and an Apple silicon MacBook with a readable lid-angle sensor. It has been tested on an M5 MacBook Air. Automatic lid tracking is not supported on the 2020 M1 MacBook Air or the M1/M2 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touch Bar. The chip alone does not guarantee compatibility. The manual preview works without a sensor, and external displays stay unchanged.
What the status labels mean
- Tested family*: verified by the developer on an M5 MacBook Air.
- Expected: an Apple silicon model expected to have a readable lid-angle sensor, not yet verified on that exact model.
- No lid tracking: automatic lid tracking does not work, but the manual preview still does.
- Unverified: not checked yet.
- Build unsupported: Intel Macs. The app does not run on them.
* One model of that family was tested (the M5 MacBook Air). Both screen sizes have not been independently confirmed.

How to check which MacBook you have
Open the Apple menu and choose About This Mac. The window shows the model name, size, year and chip. Match it to the table above.
What is the MacBook lid-angle sensor?
Newer Apple silicon MacBooks report the hinge angle of the lid through a built-in sensor. FoldMyMac reads that angle so the fold follows the real lid position, with nothing to press.
On models where the angle cannot be read, the in-app slider preview still shows the effect.
